Butterflies are one of the most beautiful things of nature and many couples have incorporate these little flying flowers into their wedding decorations. Butterflies make very versatile decorations as you can either go casual with them or make a formal and classy event out of them. In butterfly themed weddings, you can either go on having butterflies in all of your decorations or only use them as accents. Butterfly decorations are also versatile in a way that you can either have them in only 1 or 2 main colors or go natural and use all the natural colors of butterflies.

There are many types of faux butterflies to choose from and a big variety of colors. You can find these butterflies at local craft stores or online at Ebay or Etsy. Etsy even sells ready made faux butterfly bouquets and centerpieces so if you are not the DIY type, you can find most of your decorations on Etsy. You can practically become a butterfly bride by having the dress below as your wedding dress. However most brides will think this dress is a bit over the top for a wedding. Most brides who have butterfly themed wedding just wear a traditional white dress and add subtle hint of butterflies to their headbands, earrings, ribbons or shoes.

There are 2 ways you can incorporate butterflies into wedding cakes: either to use fondant butterflies or have a plain wedding cake and add plastic butterflies to it. Plastic butterflies usually come with a stick so you can secure them into the cake rather easily. Many brides go with the second way as it is obviously cheaper to buy a plain wedding cake than to have it elaboratedly decorated with fondant butterflies. Moreover, many people do not like the taste of fondant as it can be too sweet.

Butterfly wedding bouquets

If you are into non-floral wedding bouquets, you can try a bouquet made out of only artificial butterflies by following a tutorial on Martha Stewart Weddings. The result is this colorfully beautiful bouquet:

 If you want a floral bouquet, add only 2-3 butterflies to the flowers. Do not go overboard and add many butterflies into your floral bouquet as the result can be overwhelming.
