Honeymoon packing list – What to pack for your big trip
Packing for the honeymoon can be both exciting and worrying. The excitement of going on a romantic trip as a newly wedded couple for the first time and the overwhelming wedding day can make you forget some necessities for your trip. You are staring at the suitcase and cannot decide what to bring along. This is not a normal trip, this is your honeymoon and you want everything to be perfect. Some people are very skillful and experienced packers but some get very nervous every time they have to pack. If you are the second type of person, the article below will help you choose what to pack for your honeymoon to ensure that you have a perfect trip.
Check the weather forecast
Check the weather forecast of the place that you are going to as it will decide what you should bring along in your suitcase. So make sure you have some idea how the weather will be in your honeymoon destination.
Pack light and neat
Like other trips, in your suitcase there should be enough clothes, your personal necessities and medicine. Then the communication equipment (phone, phone charger, etc.) You do not need to bring “in case of emergency” stuff, if you are too careful, you can easily bring half of your flat with you.
Tip: You might not even need to bring personal items such as toothbrush, towel, soap and shampoo along as most hotels already have these for you. If you are still worried, you can bring them in your luggage, but choose those that you can leave behind at the end of the trip so that you don’t have to include them in your luggage on the way back.
Another tip: If you travel by air, make sure that all of your liquid items in your hand luggage such as lotion, soap, perfume are 100ml or less. Otherwise they might be thrown away at the airport security check. Put them in a clear zipped bag and in a place that is easy for you to take out in case the security people want to see them.
Check the booking with the hotel before you go
Check to make sure that your booking is in order in their system before you go. This is especially important if you book the trip through a travel agency (for example ebookers, Orbit, etc.) There have been cases that the booking was only recorded in the travel agency’s website and the hotel might not receive your booking yet. So just call or email the hotel to make sure that everything is in place for your big trip. You could also ask the hotel in advance if they already have necessities such as toothbrush and towels in the rooms so that you don’t have to pack those.
Basically, your luggage for the honeymoon should have:
In your hand bag (what you should have beside you all the time)
- Your identification documents (ID, passport)
- Hotel booking details
- Bank and/or credit card (only bring one card that you need the most)
- Necessary cash
- Phone, camera
- A notebook with contact details of: the hotel, involved or important contact people for the trip, your close friends or family back home (in case of emergency). This notebook is important in case you lose your phone or it runs out of battery.
- A light jacket (to wear on the plane in case it gets cold)
Regarding important documents (your IDs, phone numbers), you should make 2-3 copies of these documents and leave them in the hotel when you go out.
In the luggage:
For the groom:
- Personal necessities
- 4 – 5 T-shirts
- 2 – 3 shorts
- 2 long pants
- one jacket with hood
- one pair of shoes
- one pair of sandals
- 2 pairs of socks
Depending on where you would go in your honeymoon, you might also need:
- One formal outfit for dinner
- 2 swimming trunks
- Long sleeves, warm jacket
For the bride:
- Birth control pills
- Tampons
- Personal necessities
- 3 t-shirts, 2 blouses
- 1 jeans, 2 skirts and 2 shorts
- 2 – 3 dresses (light and comfortable)
- 1 – 2 jackets/cardigans or blazer
- 2 pairs of shoes (should be flats)
- 1 pair of sandals
- Skin care and makeup products
Depending on where you would go in your honeymoon, you might also need:
- a formal dress for dinner
- 2 swimming suits
- long sleeves, warm jacket, scarf
Tip: choose clothes that can easily pair with each other. For exam any t-shirt or blouse that you bring along should be able to pair with any shorts/jeans or skirt in your luggage. In my experience, a white tee and a blazer are the most versatile clothing item as they can be combined with almost any type of clothes and can be used in both casual and formal situations.
Other items (can be used both for both bride and groom)
- Common medicine (pills for allergy, digestion, and aspirin)
- Shampoo, shower gel (these might be available in the hotel already, but in case you still want to bring them, put them in a tightly closed plastic bag in case of any spill)
- Sunglasses and hats (very necessary if you are going to a sunny place)
- Sun lotion
- Mosquito lotion (if necessary)
- Map of the area (check with the hotel to see if they already have this)
- Battery charger (for phone, camera, etc.)
- Hair gel/wax, comb
- A few small plastic bags
